Portfolio

A portfolio helps you get famous. Sometimes your portfolio is paper paintings in a large, named portfolio, paper holder. Sometimes your portfolio is photographs of your canvas paintings in a three-pronged folder. You should keep a portfolio if you want to be famous to show to people.

An art school might show you how to make a portfolio. You can keep one to show to museums. If you don't want to be famous, you can show it to your friends. Use your camera to take pictures of your paintings. Put black cloth behind them and take a picture. The black cloth takes out the regular background behind the paintings in your photograph. My college art teacher said he put black tape around his slide of his paintings. So, I decided black cloth behind my painting would work. I tacked it to the wall. Future pictures were digital, where you could crop them on the computer before you print them. Traditional pictures you have to crop with a knife.

Once you have a portfolio; write something about each painting, like it's description story, to go with each painting. Sometimes you can stick the typed description in the back of the photo holder. This way each person will know which painting has which description. People have a hard time telling. The black cloth still helps hide non-important scenery; when you crop it, if you can't crop it just right. This is for when you use digital photography. Your portfolio will be dressed up by the description.

A portfolio to show someone; a prospective buyer, a museum, or an art college, usually holds the whole collection of your paintings. If you paint on paper, you can keep all paintings in the same paper portfolio. If you sell or give away paintings, take pictures of them before you sell the painting. These are still in your portfolio. A portfolio can remind you of what you are doing, if you go through it. This may bring back an old style that you want to work on again. If your collection gets large enough, you may need 2 or 3 portfolios. Make sure to write the dates on each. You can forget.
