Painting Beginning

Canvas on Floor then Canvas on Easel

You can paint with your canvas on an easel or the floor. If you have big canvas, you will have to paint with it on the floor. A medium or small canvas you can paint with on the easel. There is a floor easel or a table easel. Some floor easels convert to a table easel.

You can stand to paint with a table easel. You can sit on the floor to paint with the canvas on the floor. You can stand to paint with the floor easel. Most of my canvas is 2"x3" and I painted on the floor. Put down a sheet to catch drips from the paint for the floor canvas. I have a dresser with paint stains from table painting and standing to paint.

No splatters go on the wall. Splatters got on the sheet on the floor, but not on the carpet. Acrylic is not very wet of a medium. It does not sink through the sheet and get on the carpet when it drips. Letting the canvas dry between layers helps the sheet not to get wet for colors sinking through.

Bright, bold colors.

If you have an easel sometimes you can screw the canvas into place and sometimes you can't. If your easel is not sturdy it may be better to lean it against the wall. You don't want it to fall while you are painting. Colors may drip or run over a good part of your painting if it falls. Your brush may swipe it with color as it falls.

Make sure you like your canvas, easel, and drop cloth before you really get started painting. Try out a few different things while you are getting started to get some experience with it. Once you are comfortable go ahead and start painting with what you like.

If you have a versatile easel, try different positions for different canvas sizes. If you get comfortable with one style, you can use it for a lot of paintings. A comfortable style could make you famous. Comfort may make you find your style. Your style will stand out.

A funny self-portrait.

You don't have to spend a lot if you buy a versatile easel, since you don't have to have two. Have an old desk or chest of drawers to paint on that doesn't matter if it has paint stains. Buy a separate sheet to put on the floor and keep it. Just by one. They are not too expensive. You don't have to wash it.

Clothes can occasionally get splatter on them, so wear your Saturday clothes. Not work or Sunday clothes. Jeans and a Tee-shirt are fine. You are not too far away from your canvas with an easel, so paint might splash onto you when you paint. Floor painting doesn't splash onto you too much.

Artful Clothes.
